This past winter, I was craving to get my creative juices flowing again (Washington winters can be rough). After dove back into reading again, I came up with the concept of photographing a couple in a bookstore. Sophie and Alex were some of the first people I thought of when setting up this shoot, and they graciously agreed to help me bring my vision to life.
Let me share a little backstory: Sophie and I have been very close friends since our middle school days, and our bond continued to grow throughout college. My very first “creative” photoshoot I ever did was with Sophie and her girlfriends in their iconic little yellow house. Now, years later, we are still friends, and after a year of missed opportunities, we finally managed to align our schedules for this special shoot.
They started off their morning walking to my favorite bookstore, located in Seattle and then settled in for a cup of coffee in anticipation of meeting me there. They both greeted me with huge smiles and open arms and even though they were a bit nervous for their first photoshoot, they were excited to dive right in. We started our adventure through walls of books on the upper level. Sophie and Alex wandered the endless aisles of books, finding the coolest ones they could and pointing out interesting pages, covers, and photos. In preparation for this day, Sophie shared that she and Alex tried “practicing” what poses to do the night before, which culminated in them coming up with an interpretive dance that they so graciously showed me while we weaved through stacks of books. Their infectious energy, laughs, and connection were nothing short of pure magic. Having the opportunity to capture people you love in love is so special, and I am endlessly grateful to share this memory with the two of them.
