Picture this: a cool October breeze, golden rays of light streaming through towering evergreens, misty fog ghosting across the sands of the Northern Oregon Coast. Now imagine that magic paired with the warmth of two people whose love story is as rich and adventurous as the landscape around them. That’s Sydney and Andrew’s breathtaking engagement session.
But before we dive into the incredible moments we captured, let’s talk about why choosing the right photographer for an epic session like this is so important.
Photography, in its essence, is about storytelling. And when you’re shooting in a location as striking as the Northern Oregon Coast, the photographer’s job is to weave two narratives seamlessly together: the grandeur of the landscape and the intimate connection between two people in love.
I’ve fallen in love with a rare niche—a blend of technical expertise and emotional artistry. A photographer with a deep understanding of topographical nuances knows how to leverage light, texture, and composition to bring the landscape to life. But it’s not just about the scenery. The magic happens when they can direct and capture the chemistry between two people, ensuring the portraits are as personal and meaningful as they are visually stunning.
Sydney and Andrew’s engagement session is the perfect example of this balance. Their personalities—fun, adventurous, and deeply connected—shine just as brightly as the dramatic backdrops we explored. The result? Photos that feel larger than life, poignant, and deeply them.
Sydney and Andrew’s story is one of those that feels like fate had a hand in every step. They first met in college through mutual friends in Polish Club during their freshman year, their shared heritage forming a foundation not just for their connection but also for the bond between their families.
“We’re both big foodies,” Sydney shared with a laugh. “Funny enough, as much as our Polish background brought us together, we’re crazy about Asian food—sushi, Chinese, Thai, Indian—you name it!” Whether they’re exploring their favorite Wine Club spot, Cooper’s Hawk, or grabbing Taco Bell as the first stop on a road trip, their love of food is something they savor together.
But it doesn’t stop there. Their shared love for adventure fuels their relationship as well. From exploring New England’s winding roads to Switzerland’s alpine beauty, they’ve built an incredible scrapbook of memories traveling the globe. Yet, when asked about their favorite trip, they both agreed: Wyoming and Idaho hold a special place in their hearts.
With so much love for adventure, it only made sense that their engagement session would reflect that same spirit of exploration.
The Northern Oregon Coast is known for its dramatic scenery, and Sydney and Andrew’s session was set against some of the most awe-inspiring backdrops in the region. October can be unpredictable in the Pacific Northwest—rain one moment, sunshine the next—but the day seemed to hold out just for them, blessing us with weather that could only be described as perfect.
We started the session on a beautiful forest trail, where the towering trees gave us a canopy of green and gold. Here, the first hints of light began to dance, teasing us with the possibility of something extraordinary. After wrapping up on the trail, we made our way to Hug Point, one of my absolute favorite beaches.
As we drove up, I noticed the most stunning light rays filtering through the trees. I crossed my fingers, hoping they’d stay long enough for us to capture them. While we missed them on the first trail, the real magic happened when we backtracked to a different spot. There they were—glorious, golden beams of light cutting through the trees like something out of a dream. I’ve been photographing the Pacific Northwest for years, and these conditions are rare. To have them appear during such a meaningful session? Pure serendipity.
And that wasn’t all. When we made it to the beach, we were greeted by a soft, foggy mist that hugged the horizon, adding just the right amount of moody drama to the shoreline. The tide was out, which meant we could explore areas of Hug Point I’d never seen before—hidden coves and rocky outcroppings that felt like a pirate’s tale.
Sydney and Andrew were incredible throughout the session. Their adventurous personalities and effortless love for each other shone through in every frame, making my job as their photographer an absolute dream. These two felt no hesitation laughing together, leaning into a quiet moment, or simply taking in the breathtaking scenery. They made every shot feel authentic and alive.
Sessions like this are a perfect reminder of why finding the right photographer is so important—especially if you’re drawn to dramatic landscapes. It’s not easy to balance the grandeur of nature with the intimacy of a love story, but that’s why choosing a photographer specializing in both is key.
As your photographer, it’s my job to read the land and know how to use light, weather, and topography to create visually stunning images. At the same time, I’m here to make you feel comfortable, authentic, and seen.
